Paul Young, Author of The Shack Interviewed
It’s the long weekend here in Canada, so enjoy this wonderful interview with Paul Young, author of The Shack.
Also, for those of you who don’t know The Hour is not a Christian program. It is a late night talk show covering politics, the arts, entertainment, the environment, human rights, sports and more. Here is the interview:
Why am I posting this here at Irreligious Canuck? Because here are three things Paul said that I liked:
- When George asked Paul if he is a Christian, Paul replied, “Tell me what one is and I will tell you if I am one of those . . . because I am a Canadian not a Republican.”
- “Rules won’t heal you. They WILL give you power and give you a way to judge others that aren’t as good at it as you are.”
- “It took me 50 years to wipe the face of my father off the face of God.”
Paul said he grew up in a religious environment and he followed all the rules. But it didn’t bring any healing. Religion is all about pleasing God; it doesn’t matter what religion it is, you just need to know what the rules are. The Shack is a metaphor that stands for the heart of the human being.
How about you? What stuck out for you in this interview?
Comments
I loved it when he said that his book was based on the BIble but even moreso on the person of a living Christ…very clear. “God is very active in my life”…his faith is attainable. But even more so toward the end when the young man is really leaning in and asking Paul to come back I sensed that Paul had given his message in a way that made his interviewer thristy. That is the goal right? Thanks for posting this as I do not get the show in the US
I also saw the show life. I liked the fact that Paul was able to proclaim the gospel without seeming like a fanatic or being held up to derision. I also saw George Strombolopolos has interview Tony Campolo a couple of times, and both times it was a very good interview.
Hey, I just got done watching it on a different blog. I appreciate Paul Young a lot. He always speaks with the quiet confidence and authority of someone who has been through the grinder and emerged more comfortable in his own skin. I loved the way he engaged everyone (the interviewer, the audience, me) without ever grabbing for attention.
I put the link in line with other things I want to put on my own blog, if I get around to it.
What?! Someone else posted this same video on a different blog? How dare they! Just kidding . . . I am usually a few days behind everyone else anyway! ha ha
pure rubbish!!!
