Does Hell Exist?

I am posting this video today as a precursor to tomorrow’s post, “How (NOT) to Invite Someone to Church” where I question the role of hell in evangelism.
If you would like to read the transcript from this video, go to You Tube and click on “more info”. Also, by going to You Tube you will also find these videos of N.T. Wright as well: “Where is Hell Located?”, “What is Purgatory?”, “What does Heaven Look Like?”, and “What Will We Do in Heaven?”

We have real testimonies from people who have near death experiences that is evidence of hells existence but these living testimonies also tell us exactly what Hell is and what it looks like.
…near death experiences also tell us what heaven looks like and what it is.
I wonder what N.T Wright would say about those experiences.
Thanks for sharing this video. I’m glad to find your blog – and I’m guessing there’s a Canadian connection here too (I’m from Winterpeg). I’ve recently been questioning if Scripture supports the idea that the wicked are punished in Hell forever – I compiled a bunch of verses on my blog. I’ll post this video soon too. Thanks. God bless!
Hi Jon, thanks for dropping by. I will go visit your blog after I write this comment. Winterpeg! Isn’t that the home of Winnie-the-Pooh? I think questioning our interpretations of Scripture is always a healthy practice. Regarding this topic, I have done some reading recently on annihilation theory. John Stott once wrote that the Bible leaves room for other theories of hell than what has been traditionally understood. One thing I liked about the theory (not that I think it is THE answer, yet) is that the term “eternal life” takes on a more literal meaning when those who are not part of the kingdom are simply annihilated at the end of their earthly lives. (Just some more food for thought.) Oh, and I also wondered if The Shack was written with that perspective in mind but after listening to several interviews with Paul Young, I am not sure that is what he had in mind when he talked about divine punishment in his book.
This is an outstanding little video. Very succinct explanation of ‘hell’ being the rejection of God.
Just last week i was speaking to a junior high youth group and was telling them that YOUR CHOICES MATTER! It’s shocking to me to see how much the idea of ‘fate’ has penetrated our culture and our churches…
As N.T. Wright was alluding to: We are the bearers of the Divine Nature, and our choices will shape our lives and the world as a whole!
